9/11 Remembrance Day

Today, we remember and honor the 2,977 victims who died on September 11, 2001, including 72 law enforcement officers, 343 firefighters, and 55 military personnel.
In 2020, the NYPD confirmed that an additional 247 police officers had died due to 9/11 related illnesses. In 2022, FDNY confirmed the total number of firefighters who subsequently died of 9/11 related illnesses was 299. Today, on May 15, 2024, the annual National Peace Officers' Memorial service was held at 12:00 pm on the West Front of the U.S. Capitol. This solemn ceremony pays tribute to the brave law enforcement officers from across the United States who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. POA Director Matt Heady was in attendance representing our Association.
