9/11 Remembrance Day
Wednesday, 11 September 2024
Today, we remember and honor the 2,977 victims who died on September 11, 2001, including 72 law enforcement officers, 343 firefighters, and 55 military personnel.
In 2020, the NYPD confirmed that an additional 247 police officers had died due to 9/11 related illnesses. In 2022, FDNY confirmed the total number of firefighters who subsequently died of 9/11 related illnesses was 299. The PAPD (Port Authority Police Department for New York and New Jersey) confirmed that four officers died of 9/11 related illnesses. Sadly, these numbers are anticipated to continue to climb in the coming decades.
We will always remember the brave and heroic actions of these first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice.
